Progresses in Arcus projectAmerityre Corporation, the Boulder City, NV, USA, based developer of PU elastomer tyre technologies announced that it has successfully completed significant portions of the pending FMVSS 139 standard testing of its Arcus run flat tire design. Successfully completed components of the testing to date include bead unseating, tire strength and the strenuous high speed component. The company is now working on the remaining endurance component of the testing protocol and management believes that it is on track to complete that testing successfully. |

Euro-Moulders launches raw materials cost indexEuro-Moulders, the European Association of Manufacturers of Moulded Automotive Polyurethane Parts for the Automotive Industry, has launched a new cost index to highlight general cost fluctuations in the raw materials used by its member companies to manufacture PU car seats. The Index, the first of its kind, is an innovative move towards more transparency for customers and will provide a snapshot of the highs and lows faced by European manufacturers. The index will be published quarterly with an annual overview after the first year on the new Euro-Moulders website www.euro-moulders.org. Lyondell announces approval for new PO facility in ChinaLyondell Chemical Company announced on February 20th that it and Sinopec Zhenhai Refining & Chemical Co., Ltd. (ZRCC) have received final government approval for a project to construct a world-scale propylene oxide / styrene monomer (POSM) manufacturing facility in Ningbo, China, across the Hangzhou Bay from Shanghai. The project is a partnership between Lyondell and ZRCC, and the companies expect that this plant will be one of the lowest-cost POSM plants in the world, capitalizing on Lyondell's industry-leading POSM technology, both companies' operating experience and raw materials provided by ZRCC's future olefins plant in Ningbo. Dow schedules maintenance turnaround at MDI facilityDow Polyurethanes will conduct a scheduled turnaround at its MDI production plant in Estarreja, Portugal, for routine maintenance. The four-week turnaround is scheduled to begin in late February and will involve equipment repairs and replacements, reactor inspections, and process adjustments. In September 2006, Dow announced plans to expand MDI capacity at the Estarreja site. Slated for completion in 2009, the added capacity will address growing global demand for MDI, which is used in the manufacture of polyurethanes for a diverse range of applications including construction, appliance, adhesives and sealants. BASF TDI facility in Geismar downDue to mechanical failure the BASF TDI plant in Geismar, Louisiana, USA was shut down on 27th of January. BASF informed their key customers not until February 12th . Plant will be closed at least until middle of March a BASF spokesman said. As BASF’s TDI facility is one of the biggest in US, industry experts expect TDI shortage and rising prices. |

Elastogran plans acquisition of Polyurethane System House in BeneluxElastogran, a BASF subsidiary, plans to purchase the Dutch Polyurethane System House Polymer Chemical Company B.V. (PCC). On 15 February an agreement finalising the planned acquisition was signed by both parties. The transaction will be completed subject to the permission of the Monopoly and Merger Commission. The parties mutually agreed not to disclose the purchase price. “With the takeover of this successful system house we will effectively strengthen our position in the attractive Benelux market as well as our position as market leader of polyurethane (PU) systems in Europe“, says Dr. Uwe Hartwig, member of the Elastogran management board. “The performance of PCC fits in perfectly with our European network of eleven PU System Houses to date, all of which operate close to the customer. |

Albemarle to raise prices for aluminium, magnesium and zinc alkyl productsAlbemarle Corporation will increase the prices of the neat portion of its aluminium alkyl products by approximately 25 percent on a global basis effective April 1, 2007, or as contracts allow. Albemarle also will increase the prices of the neat portion of its magnesium and zinc alkyl products up to 100 percent on a global basis also effective April 1, 2007, or as contracts allow. Prices for solvent blends of organo-metallics also will be increased, as needed, to reflect higher solvent acquisition costs. |
