BASF further reinforces its commitment to China

BASF has announced that it is considering the construction of a new MDI plant in Western China in the Chongqing municipality. On 12 June 2007 a corresponding memorandum of cooperation was signed with Chongqing Chemical and Pharmaceutical Holding (Group) Company and local authorities. The start-up is planned from 2010 onward, and the plant is expected to have a capacity of 400,000 metric tons per year. After establishing the Caojing MDI/TDI facility, a complex which started up in mid-2006, BASF already announced in early 2006 that it was considering building another MDI plant in China with partners. The decision on BASF’s additional joint venture partners has not yet been made, and the final choice of a site for the plant still hinges on a number of factors. On 13 June the

Prior to joining the American Chemistry Council, Candelori held positions at The Society of the Plastics Industry and The American Plastics Council. Her prior roles involved managing industry issues for the vinyl, color and additives and the healthcare sectors.  "Neeva-Gayle brings a rich background in trade association management," says Sharon

Dow schedules maintenance turnaround

Dow Polyurethanes began work on a scheduled five-week turnaround at its MDI production facility in Stade, Germany, for routine maintenance and a government mandated process equipment inspection. Recent increased frequency of facility shutdowns across the industry has put additional pressure on the supply of MDI and availability remains tight, a Dow official said. This turnaround coincides with a scheduled maintenance turnaround at Dow’s aniline facility in Boehlen, Germany, which began on 1 May and which is expected to last six weeks. Both of these turnarounds involve equipment repairs and replacements, reactors inspections and process adjustments, some of which are required by law every five years.

Expansion of Versamid Line

Cognis has announced an expansion of its range of Versamid polyurethane resins with the addition of new products in the Versamid PUR 1000, 1100 and 7000 series. Versamid PUR 1010 and 1120 are non-reactive thermoplastic polyurethane resins suitable for the use in flexographic and gravure inks, as they do not cause swelling of flexographic printing plates. Versamid 7132 is a TDI- and tin-free non-reactive polyurethane solution that exhibits broad compatibility with a variety of co-resins and additives. It can be used as a flexibilising resin for film-forming binders and as an adhesion-promoting resin for flexographic and gravure printing inks. At the European Coatings Show 2007 in Nuremberg the company, owned by private equity firm Permira, will show new products for a variety of applica

RocTool adapts Cage System for RTM processes

After having developed the Cage System technology, the rapid transformation of composites by electromagnetic induction, French company RocTool has launched the first adaptation of its induction process for the RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding) Industry. This new technology is designed for rates of production between 100 to 1000 parts per day, which is of great interest to the car industry, water sports, sports & leisure and to the aeronautics markets. The Cage System is a procedure of ultra rapid transformation of composites, which allows to instantly heat the surface of the mould. When using electromagnetic induction heating the Cage System allows two different temperatures, one for the resin injection and another for the curing phase. With the adaptation of this technology for the RT
