Insulation
Study 2302, The Freedonia Group, Inc., Cleveland, OH, USA, 2008, 298 p., USD 4,600.00
Freedonia has published a new study on the US insulation market with a forecast until 2012. Demand is estimated to reach USD 11 billion in the year 2012 with an annual advance of 5.3 %. According to the study, demand will benefit primarily from renewed growth in residential building construction, which in 2012 will account for over 45 % of demand for insulation in value terms and 60 % in terms of R-1 insulating value.
Consumption will also benefit from greater insulation use on a per structure basis, as well as insulation upgrades for existing buildings, due to better energy efficiency. Freedonia’s analysts say that fibreglass insulation will remain the leading insulation material in use, accounting for more than half of demand in dollar and volume terms in 2012.
Foamed plastic insulation is forecast to be the second largest insulation product in use in the US, accounting for nearly 45 % of demand in value terms in 2007.
Other insulation materials, including reflective insulation and radiant barriers, cellulose, mineral wool, perlite, vermiculite, cotton and other materials, remain niche applications. These and other trends are presented in the study at hand.
