Dow Chemical to shut down Freeport TDI plant
Dow Polyurethanes has decided to shut down its TDI plant in Freeport, TX, USA, in the second quarter of 2010. The Freeport site is the company’s sole TDI plant in the United States.
According to the company, manufacturing TDI at the facility is no longer economically viable. Dow has secured an alternative supply source, and will be able to continue to provide consistency and supply reliability. Customers will not experience any negative impact from this shutdown, says the company. Dow has planned a seamless transition for customers, and there will be no changes in sales specifications, logistics, or quality. Dow says it will honour all current and existing contractual agreements with customers and remains a committed supplier of TDI, dedicated to the PU industry.
