New sales channel to cover TDI supply bottlenecks
Bayer MaterialScience, Leverkusen, Germany, is now offering extra quantities of TDI to cover sudden demand peaks. Production capacities are basically being utilised to the full, but additional volumes will be provided by calling on a 30,000 t/y pilot installation at the Dormagen site.
The company has set up a new sales channel; customers can place orders for tanker loads of TDI 80/20 directly via the service portal www.TDI-direct.com. The price of TDI via the new portal can fluctuate rapidly as conditions change on the spot market. The portal is available 24/7, the order entry is user-friendly and accompanied by an availability check and delivery status.
The plant in Dormagen is the first production facility to use the gas phase phosgenation technology. This process technology reduces the use of solvents by around 80 % and cuts energy consumption by around 40 – 60 %. Additionally, the smaller dimensions of plant components have cut investment costs by around 20 %.
