As expected, for the first time in 40 years, the EU has agreed limit values for diisocyanates that apply throughout Europe.
In this directive, the limit value for the processing of PUR components MDI, TDI, NDI and other diisocyanates has been set at 6 µg NCO/m³ for an eight-hour working day.
For short-term contact (up to 15 minutes), this value should be 12 µg NCO/m³. The European Commission intends to review these values in 2029.
During a transition period until the end of 2028, even higher values will initially apply: 10 µg NCO/m³ for the working day in production or processing, and 20 µg NCO/m³ for short-term contact.
The new Directive 2024/869 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on March 19, 2024 and enters into force on the twentieth day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (April 8, 2024). It must be transposed into national law by April 9, 2026 at the latest.
