The Japanese manufacturer has demonstrated its next-gen mobility platform at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
BASF and Suzuki Motor Corporation have announced a collaboration to develop and supply sustainable material solutions for Suzuki’s next-generation mobility platform, the “MOQBA2” (modular quad-based architecture) a vehicle which can ascend and descend steps with four legs. Among the materials under evaluation are thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and polyamide engineering plastics, designed for applications including synthetic leather, seats, cushions, wiring covers and accent rings.
The project was announced on October 29, 2025, during the Japan Mobility Show 2025 in Tokyo. TPU has been chosen for its high durability, hydrolysis-resistance and recyclability – qualities that align with Suzuki’s sustainability goals for its future mobility products.
“Material innovation is not just about performance – it’s about enabling new possibilities for design and user experience,” said Andy Postlethwaite, senior vice-president at BASF Performance Materials Asia-Pacific. “By working closely with Suzuki’s design team, we’re exploring how advanced materials can make mobility safer, more comfortable and more sustainable for future generations.
The MOQBA2 platform consists of four variants – bike, stand-up, chair and stretcher – and BASF’s solutions will be showcased at Suzuki’s stand during the show. This collaboration marks a strategic step in BASF’s “#OurPlasticsJourney” initiative to provide circular, high-performance materials for mobility and beyond.
