The graphene-enriched TPU will be used for protective footwear made by a SE Asian manufacturer.
Australian advanced-materials firm First Graphene has completed its first industrial-scale supply of its graphene-enhanced PureGRAPH 10 masterbatch for thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) applications – marking a key milestone in its commercialisation of high-performance additives for polymer systems. The shipment involved 500 kg and is destined for integration into safety-work boot soles by Southeast Asian manufacturer PT Alasmas Berkat Utama, in collaboration with compounder Duromer.
On 1 July 2025 the company disclosed two orders totalling approximately AUD 165,000 (approximately USD 110,000) of PureGRAPH product, including the TPU masterbatch for high-wear applications, and noted that volumes will begin to feed into FY26. According to the ASX announcement, the masterbatch will help extend polymer durability in harsh operating conditions and integrate into existing thermoplastic production lines without requiring processing changes.
First Graphene’s CEO, Michael Bell, said: “These orders round out a positive financial year and show our PureGRAPH product is being more widely recognised for its application in new and emerging markets.” He added that the TPU shipment “de-risks” graphene’s use in other compound sectors.
For polyurethane systems manufacturers and tyre/boot compounders, the announcement signals that graphene may begin to move from lab-scale demonstration into commercial production in TPU materials. The application for work-boot soles demonstrates wear durability under harsh conditions – a valid test bed for broader elastomer and foam-linked markets.
The development also resonates with broader sector interest in enhancing PU systems with nano-additives for durability, thermal behaviour, or conductivity gains – particularly in niche functional markets such as PPE, industrial footwear and automotive interiors.
