Packaging foam with biobased content

Packaging foam with biobased content

The newly launched FOAMplus 7008-BIO from Storopack is said to be the first polyurethane packaging foam with a certified biobased content.

FOAMplus 7008-BIO is a polyurethane foam for packaging made more than 83% real bio-based carbon content material in the B-Component. The company says this means the material is made of renewable sources and, as every material with biological origin, it carries a much lower carbon footprint than equivalent fossil origin products.

The company says this innovation represents a leap forward in the field of PU foam packaging, offering a biobased alternative to traditional fossil-based materials. FOAMplus 7008-BIO foam offers the same material properties as conventional polyurethane. This ensures the usual high-quality protective packaging for a wide variety of packaging applications, such as the cushioning and blocking and bracing of shipping goods in the box.

The foam is currently available in a density of 0.50 lb/ft3, (8kg/m3) but, in the future, Storopack customers will be able to choose between a range of densities. FOAMplus 7008-BIO is now available in North and South America and is compatible with all Storopack FOAMplus Foam-in-Place Packaging Systems.

The new FOAMplus 7008-BIO is available in combination with the new FOAMplus bio film, which also features certified bio-based content.
