Fashion designer Susan Fang has collaborated with Apple for a series of cases for iPhone and other products. The 3D printed TPU creations are inspired by natural forms and are printed to order.
Fashion designer Susan Fang has collaborated with Apple on a dedicated exhibition showcasing bespoke 3D-printed thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) cases for Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and Mac.
The cases are additively manufactured from TPU, enabling flexible, soft-touch structures and complex geometries that would be difficult to realise using conventional moulding techniques. Fang’s designs use pastel colour palettes and organic forms inspired by flowers, mushrooms and clovers, aligning with her broader design philosophy of introducing warmth, emotion and natural references into technology-led products.
The exhibition is being held in Shanghai, China, and offers visitors insight into Fang’s creative process, from early concept development through to digital modelling and final 3D printing. Design work for the project was carried out using Mac and iPad systems, with Fang highlighting how increased computing performance has supported more detailed modelling and iterative design workflows.
Fang is based in London, where she established her label after graduating from design college Central Saint Martins. She is known for combining fashion, craft and emerging technologies, frequently incorporating experimental materials and fabrication methods into her collections.
The Apple collaboration extends Fang’s exploration of additive manufacturing into consumer electronics accessories, demonstrating how 3D-printed TPU can be used to combine flexibility, durability and expressive design within protective device cases.
