Dureflex MA5000 is a TPU film on a paper carrier engineered specifically for high-performance medical uses such as IV securement dressings, continuous glucose monitor (CGM) overpatches, scar management dressings, medical wearables and flexible printed electronics.
Covestro has introduced a new thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film product, Dureflex MA5000, designed to enable improved manufacturing and performance for advanced medical device applications. The announcement was made ahead of MD&M West 2026 in Anaheim, California, where Covestro is presenting “The Material Effect” – its platform of materials science and application innovation for healthcare markets.
Dureflex MA5000 is a TPU film on a paper carrier engineered specifically for high-performance medical uses such as IV securement dressings, continuous glucose monitor (CGM) overpatches, scar management dressings, medical wearables and flexible printed electronics. The product is designed to address common conversion and processing challenges associated with soft films, complex die-cuts and high-temperature adhesive coating, where dimensional stability and precise converting behaviour are critical.
According to Covestro, the material provides three principal benefits: engineered rigidity and consistent peel force for accurate converting and part release; thermal stability above 135 °C to support high-temperature adhesive coating without distortion; and structural support that maintains geometry to simplify device placement and enable ease of use, including one-handed application.
“This product represents Covestro’s commitment to innovation in healthcare materials,” said Kidd Wang, medical segment manager at Covestro. “By addressing specific manufacturing challenges, we’re enabling our customers to create more effective, user-friendly medical devices that improve patient outcomes.”
Dureflex MA5000 is immediately available for commercial use, with detailed product information accessible via Covestro’s Specialty Films division. Attendees of MD&M West 2026 can visit Covestro’s booth to explore the new TPU film alongside the company’s broader portfolio of rigid and flexible specialty films tailored to healthcare applications.
