Huntsman has completed the expansion of its Performance Products manufacturing facility in Pétfürdő, Hungary, increasing global capacity for polyurethane catalysts and related specialty amines.

The company formally inaugurated the new operational unit in March, although production at the expanded facility began earlier in 2026. The investment is designed to improve manufacturing flexibility and support growing demand across polyurethane and other downstream markets.

The site produces amine catalysts sold under the Jeffcat brand, which are used in a wide range of polyurethane applications including automotive seating, mattresses and energy-efficient insulation systems. Huntsman said demand for these catalysts continues to grow globally, driven in part by requirements for improved processing efficiency and lower emissions in end products.

Amine catalysts play a critical role in polyurethane production, controlling reaction rates between isocyanates and polyols and influencing foam structure, curing behavior and final material properties. Increased capacity in this segment is therefore closely tied to trends in PU demand across construction, automotive and consumer applications.

Huntsman said the expansion will enable the development and manufacture of next-generation catalyst technologies, while also supporting broader industry goals such as energy efficiency, emissions reduction and improved odor performance in finished products.

The project was supported by an investment grant from the Hungarian government, reflecting the strategic importance of the chemical sector to the regional economy. Local officials attended the opening ceremony, highlighting the role of the facility in supporting manufacturing and export activity.

The expansion forms part of Huntsman’s wider strategy to strengthen its Performance Products business and respond to demand in what it describes as fast-growing and evolving markets. The additional capacity is expected to improve supply reliability and responsiveness for customers in polyurethane and related industries.
