The Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI) has introduced a new format for its long-running Professional Development Program (PDP), shifting to a more flexible, year-round learning model aimed at industry professionals across the polyurethane value chain.
The updated programme will launch virtually on May 12, 2026, marking a departure from its previous, more concentrated format. Under the new structure, CPI will deliver 15 courses through a hybrid model that combines online teaching with in-person instruction, reflecting broader changes in how technical training is accessed and delivered across the chemicals sector.
Virtual courses will be held during spring and autumn semesters and will cover a range of core and emerging topics. These include polyurethane chemistry, bio-based raw materials, life cycle assessment methodologies, and testing and performance evaluation. The programme will also address newer application areas such as battery assembly materials for electric vehicles, signalling the continued convergence of polyurethane technologies with electrification and energy storage markets.
In addition to the online modules, five in-person courses are scheduled to begin on October 4, 2026, alongside the Polyurethanes Technical Conference 2026. These sessions are designed to provide hands-on learning opportunities and facilitate networking among participants, complementing the theoretical content delivered virtually.
CPI said the revised format is intended to improve accessibility and allow participants to engage with training throughout the year, rather than within a fixed timeframe. The move also reflects increased demand for flexible professional development options, particularly among global participants balancing technical roles with ongoing project commitments.
The PDP has been delivered by CPI’s Education Center for more than two decades and is aimed at both newcomers and experienced professionals. Courses are taught by industry specialists and are open to a broad audience, including raw material suppliers, polyurethane producers, equipment and chemical distributors, manufacturers, and marketing professionals.
By expanding the programme’s scope and delivery model, CPI is seeking to maintain its role as a central training platform for the polyurethane industry while aligning with evolving industry needs and learning preferences.
