ArcelorMittal invests $57m in Georgia insulated panel manufacturing facility
Luxembourg-based ArcelorMittal Building Solutions is investing US$57 million in a new North American headquarters and manufacturing facility in Macon-Bibb County, Georgia, where it will produce insulated metal panels and other building envelope systems for the construction sector.
The project marks the company's first manufacturing operation in North America and is expected to create more than 200 jobs. Construction is due to begin later this year, with production scheduled to start in 2027.
The facility will manufacture insulated metal panels (IMPs), which consist of a rigid polyurethane or polyisocyanurate foam insulation core bonded between two metal facings. Such sandwich panels are widely used in industrial, commercial and cold-storage buildings because they combine structural performance with high thermal insulation efficiency.
ArcelorMittal Building Solutions, a division of ArcelorMittal, supplies roofing, cladding, façades and insulated building systems across Europe. The Georgia investment is intended to establish a manufacturing base closer to customers in the growing North American construction market.
According to the company, the new facility will serve demand for energy-efficient building products as developers and building owners seek to improve thermal performance and reduce operational carbon emissions.
"Establishing our North American headquarters and manufacturing facility in Macon-Bibb County is a significant milestone for ArcelorMittal Building Solutions," said Hugues Jacquemin, chief executive officer of ArcelorMittal Building Solutions. "The strategic location, skilled workforce and strong support from state and local partners make Georgia an ideal place for our expansion into North America."
Georgia governor Brian Kemp welcomed the investment, saying the project would strengthen the state's manufacturing sector and create new employment opportunities.
The move comes amid growing demand for insulated panel systems in North America, driven by the expansion of logistics facilities, data centres, manufacturing plants and temperature-controlled warehouses. Polyurethane- and polyisocyanurate-based sandwich panels are increasingly specified for these applications because of their high insulation value, low weight and rapid installation.
ArcelorMittal Building Solutions said the Macon facility would become the centre of its North American operations, supporting sales, engineering and manufacturing activities as the company expands its presence in the region.
