Wevo has introduced a polyurethane-based electronic potting resin designed to improve the durability and reliability of lithium-ion battery packs used in power tools.
The German company said its WEVOPUR 512 FLE material is intended for battery packs exposed to dust, moisture, vibration and mechanical shocks in industrial, construction and home-and-garden applications.
According to Wevo, battery potting has become an increasingly important manufacturing step as battery-powered tools have become more widespread and demands on service life and robustness have increased.
The two-component polyurethane system has a Shore A hardness of 80 and an elongation at break of around 100%, providing both mechanical stability and vibration damping for sensitive electronic components such as printed circuit boards. The company said shake tests simulating transport and operating conditions confirmed the material's damping performance.
After mixing, the resin has a viscosity of around 1,000 mPa·s, allowing it to flow into complex geometries and reducing the risk of trapped air bubbles. Wevo said this supports efficient and reproducible series production.
Other properties include thermal conductivity of 0.8 W/m·K, corrosion protection and adhesion to common plastics. The material also offers flame retardancy meeting UL 94 V-0 at 6 mm thickness and V-2 at 1.5 mm.
Wevo said the formulation can be tailored to customer requirements and processing windows, drawing on the company's experience in customised potting compounds and electronics protection.
The launch adds to the company's growing portfolio of polyurethane and silicone materials for battery and power electronics applications. Earlier this year, Wevo introduced liquid silicone rubber systems for sealing high-voltage battery housings and silicone potting compounds for electric vehicle power electronics.
