Alexium International has integrated the Micronal phase change materials (PCM) brand into its global thermal management platform following its acquisition of Microtek Laboratories earlier this year, bringing together two long-established names in microencapsulated PCM technology.

The company said the integration expands its vertically integrated PCM offering for manufacturers in the foam, textile, construction and specialty materials sectors, while strengthening domestic US manufacturing capabilities and supply chain resilience.

Micronal was originally developed by BASF before being acquired by Microtek Laboratories in 2017. At the time, BASF said the divestment would allow it to focus on its core construction chemicals business, while enabling Microtek to expand its portfolio of acrylic microencapsulated PCM technologies.

Alexium acquired the Microtek PCM business in February 2026, adding the company's manufacturing facilities, intellectual property and established PCM product lines to its own portfolio.

According to Alexium, integrating the Micronal brand creates a broader thermal management platform spanning products including BioCool, Alexicool, DelCool, NexTek and Micronal. The company said the combined portfolio is intended to support applications requiring passive thermal regulation, including polyurethane foams, textiles, building materials and specialty industrial products.

Billy Blackburn, CEO of Alexium International, said: "The integration of Micronal into the Alexium platform marks a significant milestone in our strategy to build the industry's most comprehensive thermal management solutions portfolio. By combining Micronal's trusted global brand with Alexium's innovation capabilities and domestic manufacturing strength, we are uniquely positioned to deliver enhanced value, supply chain reliability, and technical support to customers worldwide."

The company said customers would continue to have access to existing Micronal products while benefiting from expanded manufacturing capacity, technical support and future product development as part of the combined platform.
