Polytech updates manufacturing process for polyurethane-coated breast implants
The revised process gives the Microthane implant a flat, patch-free rear surface and smoother edges.
German medical technology company Polytech Health & Aesthetics has begun the phased introduction of Microthane breast implants manufactured using an updated proprietary process.
Microthane implants comprise a silicone elastomer shell and silicone gel filling covered with a micropolyurethane foam surface. They are used in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.
According to Polytech, the revised manufacturing process produces a flat, patch-free posterior surface and smooth edges while maintaining the clinical characteristics of the established implant.
The process is covered by European patent application EP26184379.1, filed on June 10, 2026.

Polytech has started introducing the updated implants in selected markets. The rollout will continue regionally according to manufacturing capacity and the regulatory requirements applying in each market.
The announcement coincides with Polytech’s 40th anniversary. The company develops and manufactures its breast implants at its headquarters in Dieburg, Germany, and supplies aesthetic and reconstructive surgery products in more than 90 countries.
