PPG launches one-component marine coating range

PPG has launched a portfolio of five one-component marine coatings, including polyurethane technology, for maintenance work carried out by ships’ crews.

The PPG One Range products were introduced at the SMM maritime trade fair in Hamburg, Germany. They are intended for interior and exterior maintenance applications and include waterborne, alkyd and polyurethane coatings.

PPG said the ready-to-use products eliminate on-board mixing, reducing preparation time, application errors and unused material. The range has been formulated without isocyanates and includes low-odor, waterborne and ultra-low volatile organic compound options.

“Coatings maintenance is essential for extending vessel lifecycles, but preparation and application can be time-consuming for crews managing other operational responsibilities,” said Ewout Bosman, PPG segment director for seastock protective and marine coatings.

“With the PPG One Range portfolio, we focused on eliminating mixing requirements and simplifying application to help crews complete projects more efficiently.”

The portfolio includes the waterborne PPG Aquacover One system, comprising a primer and topcoat for interior areas and exterior environments classified up to C3. PPG said it is suitable for accommodation areas, machinery spaces and engine rooms, as well as selected exterior surfaces.

Products in the wider range are designed to support low-VOC compliance and low-flame-spread certification.

PPG also previewed a portable, battery-powered application system at SMM. The PPG PowerPack allows operators to switch between roller and brush application using one unit, reducing the number of equipment changes required during maintenance.

PPG is exhibiting the coatings and application system at SMM Hamburg from Sept. 1–4.
